An open, independent magazine supported by its readers

During Llegendàrium’s first phase, which began in 2017, most articles were reserved for patrons. In this new phase, beginning in 2026, I have decided to reverse the model: the vast majority of the content will be published openly and made available to every reader.

I believe that folklore is a form of heritage that should circulate, be shared and remain alive. Publishing articles openly allows them to reach more people, helps readers discover distant traditions and enables Llegendàrium to become a space for reference, learning, reading and dissemination that is accessible to everyone, wherever they may come from.

However, writing, researching, translating and maintaining an independent publication based on original research, with long-form articles and extensive bibliographies, requires considerable time and resources. Behind every article lie many hours of research and work.

Patreon allows readers who wish to do so to help make this work possible and ensure the material continuity of a project that would otherwise be much more difficult to sustain. Becoming a patron therefore does not simply mean paying to access content behind a paywall. It means helping to support a magazine committed to keeping most of its work freely available to everyone while preserving its independent spirit, without relying on intrusive advertising or interests external to the project.

You do not need to make a financial contribution to become part of the community. You can join Llegendàrium on Patreon for free to receive news, notifications about new publications and general information about the project.

Free membership is a way to stay in touch with Llegendàrium without depending on social-media algorithms. If you later decide to contribute financially, you can move to any of the paid tiers. If you already belong to one, you can upgrade, downgrade or cancel it whenever you wish.

What are contributions used for?

Members’ contributions help support:

• Researching and writing new articles.
• Acquiring and consulting books, documents and specialist bibliography.
• Translating content into Catalan, Spanish and English.
• Maintaining the website technically and editorially, including its server.
• Preparing new dossiers and materials.
• Ensuring the continuity of an independent cultural and research project.

Every contribution, regardless of tier, provides more time and resources to research, write about and share folklore with the rigour and depth it requires. The different membership tiers are described below.

Amic · Amigo · Friend — €3 per month

This first tier is intended for those who wish to help sustain Llegendàrium and contribute to keeping most of its content freely available.

Friend members will receive:

• Access to Patreon posts for patrons.
• News about Llegendàrium, my books and ongoing research.
• Previews of forthcoming articles and projects.

Above all, this is a simple way to support Llegendàrium’s research, writing, translations and open publication.

Cercle · Círculo · Circle — €6 per month

This tier is intended for readers who, in addition to supporting the project, would like a closer look at the research and writing process.

It includes all the benefits of the Friend tier, as well as:

• Access to the monthly Llegendàrium Notebook.
• Supplementary material that will not appear in the public versions of the articles, published directly on Patreon.
• Participation in polls to help select future subjects and content.

The Llegendàrium Notebook will not necessarily consist of finished articles, but will offer a behind-the-scenes view of the working process. I will share books, documents, ideas, fragments, discoveries, difficulties and paths encountered while preparing new articles and essays, together with research notes, readings, sources, bibliographical recommendations and materials related to the articles and books on which I am working.

Mecenes · Mecenas · Patron — €12 per month

This tier is intended for those who wish to make a special commitment to the continuity and growth of Llegendàrium.

It includes all the benefits of the Friend and Circle tiers, as well as:

• Access to an annual digital monographic dossier.
• Access to previously published dossiers for as long as the membership remains active.
• Recognition as a patron of Llegendàrium on the website’s acknowledgements page, if desired.

The annual dossier will be conceived as a short digital book devoted to a single subject. It may bring together texts, narratives, variants, sources, images, notes and bibliography, allowing for an in-depth exploration of subjects that cannot be fully developed in the regular articles. The first dossier is planned for the first half of 2027.

Above all, this tier is a way of offering special support to Llegendàrium. As the community grows, I intend to expand it gradually with gatherings, conversations, live question-and-answer sessions and other collective activities, always according to the interests of patrons and the project’s possibilities.

Content in Catalan, Spanish and English

All membership content, including the Llegendàrium Notebook, supplementary materials and the annual monographic dossier, will be published in Catalan, Spanish and English. Each patron will be able to access whichever version they prefer.

Llegendàrium is a project born in Catalan, and this language will remain an essential part of its identity. At the same time, this new phase has a comparative and international outlook, seeking to bring folklore closer to readers from other cultures and backgrounds.

A community under construction

The Patreon tiers and their content may grow and evolve as the Llegendàrium community itself develops. Any significant addition will be announced in advance and will be designed to enrich the project without compromising the quality of its research or content.

The intention is not to accumulate rewards or hurriedly produce a large volume of content, but to build a stable community around folklore and make sustained, rigorous and independent work possible.
