Medieval

Among the medieval legends you will find stories that can be traced back to the age of peasants and knights, but also later narratives written by nineteenth- or twentieth-century authors that have either been passed off as medieval or are simply set in the Middle Ages.

Whatever their origins, the extraordinary richness of medieval culture has bequeathed us countless forms of oral and literary narrative: religious tales that frequently draw upon popular culture, playful fabliaux, the celebrated Matter of Britain and many others. It is an age beloved by many, one that continues to inspire our imagination despite being, all too often, profoundly misunderstood.
