In September the flames of the sun begin to fade, its strength waning as autumn takes its place. In the countryside, the last summer figs are gathered, the grape harvest begins and the new wine is pressed. It is a season of legends, gatherings and processions celebrating miraculous images of the Virgin, and of the old fear of the red wind. The herds descend from the mountains, livestock is sorted and preparations begin for the cold season ahead. At the end of the month, Saint Michael marks the beginning of the season of agricultural and livestock fairs.
